A Timeless Princess Meet the Author, Denny H. Miyasato
The author behind A Timeless Princess is Denny H. Miyasato — entrepreneur, songwriter, and playwright. To understand the show is to understand its author: a man who believes that the best stories are never invented, but discovered through a lifetime of living. A Timeless Princess is the fullest, most honest expression of that belief.
How the Author Found the Story of A Timeless Princess
Long before A Timeless Princess had a script or a stage, its author was captivated by a face — the face of Princess Kaʻiulani, the last princess of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Her beauty drew him in. Her story broke him open.
In 2005, immersed in a book about Queen Liliʻuokalani’s life, the A Timeless Princess author felt the weight of everything that had been lost — the kingdom, the dignity, the succession — and a single tear fell.
From that moment, the first words of this Hawaiian musical were born.
Over the decade that followed, Denny developed the story with patience — refining the script, shaping the music, deepening every theme — until A Timeless Princess was ready for its world premiere at Honolulu’s Mamiya Theater on July 11, 2019.
The Author's Philosophy
Denny H. Miyasato, the author of A Timeless Princess, believes that great storytelling is an organic process — nurtured by everything a person carries through life. The show reflects that entirely: it is not a history lecture set to music. It is a human story about the choices we make under pressure, the love we find unexpectedly, and the legacies we inherit without asking.
The author of A Timeless Princess wanted audiences to leave the theater not just entertained, but genuinely moved — and perhaps, for the first time, curious about the history beneath their feet in Hawaiʻi.
